Hawaiiki Nui Va'a

98730 Bora Bora
Event organized by ACOHV.
Hawaiki Nui Va'a has become one of the biggest sporting events of the year for Tahitians and many others in the South Pacific. Outrigger canoe races (va'a in Tahitian), solo or by team, the Tahitians are the kings of the discipline in international events. More than 2,000 va'a line up for this 80 km race, which takes place over three days between the islands of Huahine, Raiatea, Taha'a and Bora Bora. Hundreds of supporters cheer them on, from the boats and from the world famous Matira beach in Bora Bora. The athletic and tactical skills necessary to complete this grueling race are on display and remind visitors that the Polynesians conquered the South Pacific in va'a. The Hawaiki Nui Va'a race is the perfect opportunity to explore the Society Islands: Huahine, Raiatea, home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Taputapuatea, and the center of all boat rentals, Taha'a, and of course the mythical Bora Bora. All the inhabitants of the island make every effort to welcome the teams, their friends and their families in the best possible conditions, by organizing festive evenings, which keeps the traditional Polynesian way of life alive.
