Fire, passion, and excellence return to the ‘Ārahurahu marae
Created in 2023 by Tamatea Ondicolberry, Polynesian champion and fire dance teacher, TE AHI TOA has quickly established itself as a major cultural and sporting event in Polynesia.
Set in the majestic surroundings of the marae ‘Ārahurahu, this third edition promises a unique experience combining tradition, performance, and intergenerational transmission. More than just a competition, TE AHI TOA is a celebration of Polynesian identity and a springboard to international excellence.
A program spanning two exceptional evenings
Friday, October 10: the next generation in action with the TAMA (ages 6–11) and TAURE'A (ages 12–17) categories.
Saturday, October 11: time for the TOA and AITO categories (intermediate and professional adults), with the new addition of the group category open to everyone aged 6 and up.
The previous edition brought together 35 participants (including 22 under the age of 18) and more than 600 spectators on site, confirming the growing success of the event.
Thanks to the support of our sponsors, several winners were able to represent Polynesia at the prestigious World Fireknife Championships in Hawaii in May 2025. Some even distinguished themselves, such as Mathias Svenson, vice-world champion in the junior category, and Haukea Moua, world champion in the intermediate category for the second consecutive year.
An exceptional jury
For this third edition, TE AHI TOA is honored to welcome:
Mikaele Oloa, five-time world champion in Hawaii, jury president,
Hale Motu'apuaka, four-time world champion, present for the second consecutive year,
Haukea Moua, our two-time world champion in the intermediate category.
