The bay of Taiohae welcomes cruise ships, cargo vessels and sailboats.
It is better to take organized excursions to discover the luxuriant valleys, scenic viewpoints and many archeological sites on the island.
There are several shops in the fishing port of Taiohae, as well as a craft center and a few food trucks. Taiohae is also where you’ll find the local administration, hospital, pharmacy and a bank with a cash dispenser. Note: the only banks in the Marquesas Islands are in Hiva Oa, Nuku Hiva and Ua Pou. You will need to take cash with you to the other islands.
