Lac Vaihiria

Lake Vaihiria is the only natural lake in Tahiti. It was formed when a large part of the east of the island collapsed and great blocks of volcanic rock fell down, making a dam which blocked the whole width of the valley for 800 meters. At the beginning of the 1980s, EDT ENGIE , the Tahitian electricity company, built an important hydroelectric plant to produce electricity from the water running from the lake.
