The bird island of Fakarava, another world.

Bird island is in the middle of Fakarava lagoon. It is a biosphere reserve protected by UNESCO since 2006. It is a safe haven for bird colonies as it is unhabited by man or any other predators. Visitors can observe a variety of different species of birds in their natural environment, as well as the many sharks which can be seen from the surface as they swim in the shallow waters around the island. It is strongly advised to use the services of a professional guide when visiting the island.
