Moorea - practical information

Now you’re here

Many of the restaurants offer transport, depending on where you’re staying. Don’t hesitate to ask when you reserve your table.

Most tourists and locals visit Moorea on a One day trip. As the name suggests, this consists of visiting for the day, with a picnic on a motu or renting a scooter or an e-bike and touring the island looking for the best beach.

However, Moorea has a wide range of accommodation from camping to luxury hotels, most of which are situated around the bays of Cook and Opunohu on the north coast.

There are two post offices, at Maharepa and Papetoai, and banks with cash dispensers at Maharepa and in the Petit Village commercial center on the west of the island. The island boasts several supermarkets and there is a nurse’s station in Haapiti, a public clinic in Papetoai and a hospital in Afareaitu. The gendarmerie (police station) is in Paopao and the local police are based in Afareaitu.

There are two emergency centers (fire and ambulance) in Paopao and Nuuroa and two pharmacies, in Maharepa and Haapiti.

ATTENTION: A new series of coins has been in circulation since September 2021. As of November 30, 2022, only these new coins will be authorized. More information at www.ieom.fr
