Taste the rum from Taha'a

"Rum island"

Agricultural rum with a Polynesian flavor

Taha’a is known as “vanilla island”, but it could just as rightly be called “rum island”, because Taha’a is home to two prestigious distilleries: Domaine Pari Pari and Rhumerie Mana’o. A visit and tasting is not to be missed.

Eric, a rum enthusiast

"I particularly liked the white rum. It had a wonderful balance of flavors."

Mana'o and Pari Pari, two esteemed distilleries

Mana’o means “to think” or “to remember” in reo tahiti and is a reminder of the rich history of sugarcane growing in French Polynesia and the celebrated local variety, O’tahiti. Mana’o cultivates more than a dozen acres of sugarcane in Taha’a. Once harvested, the cane is fermented locally before being distilled in Tahiti. Mana’o was the first Polynesian rum to be certified bio. You can taste their white, dark and amber agricultural rums at the fare dégustation (tasting boutique) opposite the quayside at Tapuamu.

A little further on from the Rhumerie Mana’o, you will come to the Domaine Pari Pari. You can follow the entire manufacturing process of their agricultural rum, from the pressing of the cane to the distillation of the finished product, which is 100% ’made in Taha’a’. A blend of six varieties of endemic sugarcane grown in a 50 acre plantation, make white, amber and dark agricultural rums with unique, subtle flavors. A tasting will introduce you to their rums, which have earned the distillery several prestigious awards.
