Poisson cru au lait de coco

In such a perfect climate, The Islands of Tahiti have an abundance of fruit, vegetables and spices. And these exotic culinary treasures are the perfect accompaniments for fresh fish from the lagoon or the ocean. Snapper, mahi mahi, parrotfish, marlin, tuna…among the many fish that are part of typical Polynesian dishes. The most famous and most popular is the poisson cru à la tahitienne (marinated raw tuna in coconut milk). And here’s how you make it.

To begin

You’ll need

  • 500 g of red tuna
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 1 small cucumber
  • 2 lemons or limes
  • 1 onion
  • 250 ml of coconut milk
  • Salt & pepper
Easy and delicious!

Preparation

  1. Cut the fish into small cubes and soak them in sea water or salted water for 5 minutes.
  2. Drain the fish and put to one side.
  3. Dice the tomatoes and cucumber, finely chop the onion and put in a salad dish.
  4. Add the tuna to the dish and mix with the other ingredients.
  5. Squeeze in the lemon and add the coconut milk just before serving. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  6. That’s all. Bon appétit!
