Put on your sneakers or your plastic sandals – ideal for crossing streams – grab a bottle of water, pick up your backpack and follow your guide! The interior of the high islands offer some of the most spectacular scenery in The Islands of Tahiti. Steep mountain slopes, waterfalls, lakes and lava tubes, and of course, the marae, the archeological sites where the mana of Polynesian ancestors is almost palpable. All are accessible by foot, mountain bike, quad or ATV, depending on your physical condition. Many of these preserved sites are remote and isolated, so it’s advisable to be accompanied by a professional guide.
