Getting to Fakarava

How to get here

The domestic airline Air Tahiti has flights from Tahiti to all the archipelagos in French Polynesia.

Pleasure charters have the particularity of being able to drop anchor on all the islands of French Polynesia, and Fakarava is no exception.

Getting around on Fakarava

Fakarava airport is 4 km from the main village and there is no taxi service, so arrange for your hosts to collect you when you make your reservation. You can rent a car or bike in Rotoava, the main village, and bikes are supplied free of charge in some accommodation. It isn’t difficult to tour the island by bike, and it’s well worth the effort!

If you’re staying in the south of the island, in the village of Tetamanu, it’s an hour’s boat trip from Rotoava. There are two passes into the lagoon: Garauae in the north and Tumakohua in the south. Visiting yachts will find moorings at Tetamanu. It takes 3 hours to sail from one pass to the other.
