Drift diving in Rangiroa

Experience

Unforgettable

Rangiroa is one of the world’s Top 5 diving destinations. This is largely due to the incredible choice of dive sites in the two main passes. There are strong incoming or outgoing currents and there’s also a tidal bore, which is the favorite playground of bottlenose dolphins.

Tiputa and Avatoru passes

Roll over backwards and you’re on your way! The normal starting point for a drift dive on the incoming current at Tiputa is in front of the sharks cave. Try to keep hidden so that you can observe the gray sharks. More experienced divers can continue towards the canyons where you’re likely to meet some hammerhead sharks. For a drift dive on the outgoing current, the site called “L’éolienne” (the windmill) is perfect even for beginners. You’ll come across turtles, dolphins and manta rays and tropical fish of all shapes and colors.

The pass of Avatoru is renowned for tapete (white tip shark) and huge shoals of jackfish. Just let yourself drift on the outgoing current and keep your eyes wide open!
