Tahiti - practical information

Now you’re here

The information office of Tahiti Tourisme is open to residents and visitors. Situated on the seafront in Papeete, our climatized offices offer a free wifi connection and our team of consultants are on hand to give you practical assistance and information about what to do during your stay in The Islands of Tahiti.

Most economic activity on the island is centered in the area between Punaauia and Mahina,  so it’s best to avoid driving in that area during the peak periods of 6h00-8h00 and 16h00-18h00 from Monday to Friday. All essential commerces can be found throughout the island with several hypermarkets in and around Papeete. Shops are usually open from 08h00 to 17h00 and on Saturday mornings, but most are closed on Sundays.

The emergency services operate in each of the island’s municipalities, including ambulance and fire brigade, clinics and the police. In addition, there are two hospitals (at Pirae and Taravao) and two clinics in Papeete.

You can find all types of accommodation on the island, from a simple hostel to the most luxurious hotel. There is also a large selection of Tahitian Guesthouses and bed and breakfast accommodation.

The Sunday brunch is a most popular meal for Tahitians. It begins with a visit to Papeete market, which opens at 04h00! There you will find a choice of mouthwatering Polynesian specialities to satisfy even the most demanding appetites.

ATTENTION: A new series of coins has been in circulation since September 2021. As of November 30, 2022, only these new coins will be authorized. More information at www.ieom.fr
